About Jack

Jack teaches math from pre-algebra through calculus. He completed his master’s in mathematics at CSU East Bay, where he also taught his own courses and helped revise the curriculum — so he has seen the subject from both sides of the desk, which is rarer among tutors than you’d expect.

Over the past five years he has worked with middle school, high school, and college students across algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. A good share of that work is less about the current chapter than about the thing two years back that never quite landed. Jack is comfortable going there.

He is also candid about what most math anxiety actually is: not an inability to do math, but a run of confusing experiences that stacked up. Undoing that is a large part of the job.

How Jack Runs a Session

Sessions are built around the student’s own material — the homework due Thursday, the test that came back with a 62 on it. Jack works through what went wrong rather than teaching a parallel curriculum, so tutoring reinforces what happens in class instead of competing with it.

After every session you get a short written note covering what was worked on, what your student handled well, and what comes next. Between sessions, students can use our free printable math worksheets for extra practice at no cost.

Where Jack Tutors

Jack tutors in students’ homes across the Tri-City area: Fremont, Newark, and Union City. When home isn’t practical, he also meets students at local library branches and cafés.
